At least its not 20M dead right?

I have seen a lot of varieties of this comment:

a. Country X is or will be doing a lot worse (X=China, Italy, India)
b. Pandemic X was a lot worse (X=bubonic plague, smallpox, Spanish flu)
c. We could be doing a lot worse if we hadn't X so quickly (X=shut China flights, state shutdown orders)

While I admire the ability of people to always look on the bright side, the problem with this country at this particular time is TOO MUCH OPTIMISM. Optimism is literally killing us.

Imagine if Pearl Harbor had been in the age of the internet, the traffic would be:
a. Hannibal's sneak attack over the Alps was far more effective
b. Look at Korea - it is now under Japanese rule so we are doing pretty good here
c. Due to our quick reaction we were able to save 25% of the Pacific fleet, and can repair most of the rest
