My guess, just a guess, is there are different standards for Fuqua.

That’s not to imply that academic standards are being lowered, but most legit top tier graduate business schools require work experience before admission. There are rarest of rare exceptions but you can’t just go straight from undergrad to Darden, Kellogg, Wharton, HBS, Stanford.

It’s arguable that Fuqua is on the outside of the legit top tier & is more of an upper next tier MBA program, so they may be more willing to intake applicants without work experience. Fills the seats at $60K a year, or whatever it now costs. The UVa Comm school one year masters program is a different cat. I just don’t know what the relative value of that versus a Fuqua MBA is in reality. It might be a close call.

It seems obvious that Duke doesn’t have a nickel to give in GIA money, so it’s a given given that they sold the grad school offerings & the program. One way or the next there was an angle for Sowers to get an admit into a grad school program & that’s a good thing in terms of his own best interests. He’s smart to play it for the degree program. On the other hand, I hate Duke just the same.
