D3, by definition, does not funnel scholarships to their lacrosse players

they can be eligible for academic or need based aid, but they have to qualify.

The draw for lacrosse is the opposite of paying out scholarships, and is actually the fact that your average lacrosse player is not only a FULL PAY student, but their parents can most likely be counted on to pay into the lacrosse team slush fund and make donations to the school. Also, demographically speaking alumni who were athletes in general, but lacrosse in particular are deemed to be very high probability donors in the future. That pipeline to Wall Street is worth a lot to the school too don't forget.....

It is like the Ivy League - the schools want the demographic that lacrosse brings.
