Lots of unknowns for the moment...

I think the problems early last season were related to perimeter scoring, or the lack thereof. It wasn't just that Virginia wasn't scoring from outside, but that, without that element, teams were packing the lane and double teaming Diakite and/or whoever else was in the paint. I thought the improvement Virginia experienced in the later portion of the year was related to those same perimeter players becoming comfortable in their roles and improving their performances. Injuries to Key and Stattmann also have to be considered. That said, I see no reason to expect those returning players to regress. They played key roles in defeating FSU, UNC on the road, Duke, & Louisville. That does not scream "lack of talent" to me. Perhaps Abdur-Rahim and Beekman are good enough to move ahead on the depth chart. On the other hand, this board has a long history of over-estimating the abilities of incoming frosh and their future roles on the team. The growth and improvement of returning players is also frequently understated. So, while it is possible that Abdur-Rahim may assume a starting role before the season ends, I remain just a bit skeptical. Go 'Hoos!!!
