The ability to defend well is a good start

but I don't think he is considered to be at the same place Morsell was when he enrolled, and much of Morsell's early playing time came because there wasn't anyone else to play. This was especially true when Stattmann missed six games. Secondly, having good individual defensive skills is not the same as being competent in the Pack Line's defensive schemes. All the returning perimeter players have at least one year of experience playing the Pack Line. Clark and Stattmann will have two. Admittedly, it may be easier for the guards to learn to execute than it is for forwards and centers, but there is still a learning curve. And, we all know how Coach Bennett feels about defense. Lastly, Woldentensae's production did drop after the UNC game, but much of that was due to the attention opposing teams were paying to him, and that attention created opportunities for the rest of the team. As I noted elsewhere, in Guy's first year he averaged under 18 mpg, with seven starts. Jerome played something like 14 mpg with five starts. And, IMO, the players that were in front of them on the depth chart, with the exception of Devon Hall, were not as good as this year's returning lettermen. Do you expect Beekman and/or Abdur-Rahim to arrive as better players than either Guy or Jerome? They might be, but I don't think it is a reasonable expectation. Go 'Hoos!!!
