CL did not understand football and basketball scheduling are very different

In basketball, a trip to a 20 win non power 5 school (the equivalent of an 8 win in football so Liberty is a good example) helps your power ratings immensely. I actually think we should do a home and home with the Flames in basketball. The VCU home and home was a very good thing for Virginia basketball and our seeding. Even a loss in a game like that is not a killer. The committee sees where the team rests on the NET and if they are top 75 (which a 20 win Liberty tam who also beat Virginia would be) its a tier 1 loss and as if you lost to an ACC team on the road. Heck, it would be better than losing to South Carolina at home ;-)

In football there are other factors with no upside. Bowl eligibility means you need wins OOC so the risk-reward is very different for a loss. There is ZERO bonus for winning on the road unless you are being evaluated for a top 4 playoff spot and if you lose to an ODU or Liberty you will be laughed out of the Committee room even at 12-1. Financially, a Liberty game at home even with attendance under 40,000 is a big positive impact on revenue. On the road even if you split gate receipts, it is minimal from a 20,000 seat stadium as you don't get merchandising or concessions.

This just does not make sense. If Liberty and ODU don't want to come to Scott, they do not have to. The only benefit I see with ODU is the Tidewater recruiting component, but I just do not see that outweighing financial matters and risk-reward.
