Jay, Tomas, Kihei, Kody, & Casey combined for 40.8% from 3 in last 10 games

I posted this earlier, but wanted to reiterate:

We started off this year in a terrible 3 point funk. Lot's of reasons for that: new rolls, new players, deeper 3 point line. But, as the team settled in, the 3 point shooting improved. I took a look over the last ten games (for returning players) -- basically the last half of the ACC schedule. Yes, it is a smaller sample size, but I think with all the adjustments, it might be more representative.

J Huff 40% (10 for 25)
T Woldentensae: 35.9% (23 for 64)
K. Clark: 51.9% (14 for 27)
K. Stattman: 54.5% (6 for 11)
C. Morsell: 33.3% (5 for 15).

As a group that is 40.8% (58 of 142).

Kody is improving and has earned time. His defense has improved and he uses his length well. He is a threat from 3 and with other shooters on the floor he can be deadly to other teams. Also, his drives to the basket are solid - and with more space, this will be a weapon in his game. Those that discount him in favor of the first years are making a mistake. He likely won't be playing 30 minutes, but he will play at least 10 minutes every game.

Casey is more likely to play 30 minutes a game then 10 minutes a game. He is an elite defender and that will earn playing time with Coach. He was known as a scorer in high school. The tools are all there. He will be first team all-ACC before he graduates. He will be an monster for us - our best two way player since Malcolm. Those that are discounting his offense are making a mistake.

We tend to over estimate the contributions of our first year players. In his first year, Kyle started 6 games, played in all 34, and averaged 18.6 minutes a game. He averaged 7.5 points and hit a whopping 49.5% from 3 point range. The same season, Ty Jerome played in 32 games and averaged 13.9 minutes (he was coming off an injury). Dre red-shirted. Kyle's production is the likely high mark for what we could expect from any of the first years. London was an exception for minutes played his first year, but we were in desperate need for a point guard and London beat out Devin Hall. Beekman likely won't average more than 10 minutes a game. Kihei is going to play 32 minutes. Don't expect Jabri to play 30 minutes a game. He would have to be pretty darn spectacular to play 20 minutes a game. I expect closer to 15 to 18 a game. McCorkle is a great shooter - given our depth, that won't earn time for Coach unless he can play defense, too. I see a likely redshirt, or limited minutes. None of the first years will earn more minutes that Kihei, Casey, Jay, Sam or Tomas. I see Kihei, Jay, and Sam all playing 30 minutes. I see Casey playing just under that - maybe 25 to 28. Tomas will be at least 20 minutes a game. And, I expect Kody will be at least 15 a game. That's 150 minutes leaving 50 minutes to be split by everyone else including Francisco and Kadin who together will probably take at least 10 of those minutes for depth in the front court. And don't write off Justin McCoy. Beekman with 10. Jabri with 18 or so and a couple spread around.
