those of us who have had the privilege of watching him the past 3 years know that there is no reason he can't start in the minors.

I hate to harp on it, but I would take him in a heartbeat over the kid from VT with the extremely awkward delivery. I know I'm biased, but even so - he should have been a second-round pick based on talent.

I also think the UVA brand played a role in the current economy and current draft situation -- with the MiLB season all but officially cancelled, and UVA being a school almost everyone who attends loves, there is no such thing as certainty in signing our players -- and you need to be very careful if you only have 5 draft picks. You get comps for unsigned draftees in the first 3 rounds, but still there will be little chance to replenish the farm system. And in addition to a lot of players being released, there will be a natural attrition of guys who decide to retire and pursue non-baseball careers in the present economy, with no certainty of when MLB will work things out, or what MiLB will look like when play resumes.

Damn we are going to be loaded next year.
