I tend to ignore position terminology with this staff

It's one of Bronco's quirks.

Typically, TB and FB are subsets of RB. And, typically, the difference between a NT/DT/DE is where they line up, aka technique. Good explanation and NFL examples at the link.

We're weird.

The way we've been utilizing our backs, IMO we really only have FBs. Look at Ellis's couple of years or Wayne. The job is either block for someone else or run a quick hitter up the middle... which is basically a traditional FB role. Hopefully that changes, but so far, who cares what they're called? The only real difference has been that some guys are definitely not getting carries.

But then we've got RB/TB/FB on the official roster, while the depth charts refer to BB/SB, and none it is used consistently. FWIW, it's also not surprising to me that the players listed at RB are all TBs who haven't earned many/any snaps yet, as if we haven't figured out where they'll be slotted. But I think the real takeaway is: if you're paying attention, if you're investing your time into the program, you know who does what. And if not, it's fine if you don't.

Same thing but sort of the inverse at DL. At RB, everybody's just been playing one position, so who cares what they're called. On the DL, guys line up everywhere, to the point that the NT/DT/DE designations start to break down. Faumui and Alonso, one's listed at DT the other at DE, but they line up all over the place. I don't think it matters what you call them. If you're invested, you know. If not, maybe you get confused, and that's fine.
