Non political covid 19 question

Cases continue to spike but the number of people dying is dropping from 7 day averages of well above 1000 to under 500.

Why? I have never read anything that tells me why.

1. new cases are young people and they don't tend to die from it?
2. are we better at treating it? (e.g. we don't put people on ventilators or the wrong drugs?)
3. the data is screwed up?

Anyone know why?
