He was a late bloomer. Initially, he was hired to be a backup. John and


Paul were the co-writers and got the royalties. They occasionally let George and Ringo throw in a song and make a couple of extra bucks. However, George kept getting better, until he was an equal in song creation. Rumor is that John and Paul were getting nervous about the splits at the end.
