I just got a Hero8 Black for mountain biking. My thoughts

The camera + battery weigh about 1/3 of a pound (126g per their website). The Hero7 Black weights about 10g less. I have two helmets, open face and full face. I have it mounted on the top-front of my OF just above my forehead. On my FF, it's chin-mounted, just under the tip of the mouth guard. It's definitely noticeable when I first put the helmet on, but after a while I forget it's there. I did get a chest harness and some other mounts, but I haven't had a chance to use those yet. More than likely I'll just stick with the helmet mounts for now. They seem to capture the best angle for MTB.

I looked at some cheaper action cams, and checked out lots of sample footage on YouTube. Everything I saw that wasn't a GoPro was shaky as all get out. The Hero 7 and 8 have built-in stabilization that works fantastically well IMO. I've included a link below to one of the first rides I took with it. Apologies for the music, but the free track available through GoPro's editor app are pretty awful.

I also like that the GoPro has voice control, and I can control/preview it with my phone. Really helps get the angle right when the cam is on top of my head where I can't see the built-in screen. The mount on the 8 folds into the body, which I read is new for this model. I'm not sure how attachments mount on the older models. The accessory kit I got cost about $20 on Amazon. It's all cheap stuff made in China, but it cost less than the official stuff and works just fine IMO. I may be singing a different tune tho the first time I crash with it on :)

EDIT: If you watch the video, you may have to manually set the quality to 1080p.
