Let's say a couple lease a house together and live there with


their children. One of them is flattened by a bus. The one who lives could possibly take on rent themselves, but they would have almost nothing left to support their family after rent is paid. Finding a paying roommate isn't an option.

Is the surviving signatory to the lease shady for trying to renegotiate, or if that's not possible, get out of the lease, because there was a contract, damn it?
