In 2018 the men's rowing head coaching position was endowed.

"The Farwells' gift will provide necessary resources and ensures support in perpetuity. The Farwell Family Director of Men's Rowing is the 16th endowed head coach position and the 28th overall endowed position in the athletic department."

There has to be more to it than lack of funds given that I also read the school is discouraging "angel donors" from saving these programs. I suppose the teams can all operate as club sports moving forward using their endowments, but I still wonder if donors can get their money back if they want it.
