I flew into Seattle to see the sights of Washington en route to the SE part

of the state for work.

Middle of March - the rental car place tells me I'd better get all-wheel drive or they won't let across Snoqualmie Pass. It's rainy/foggy in Seattle and not that close to freezing.

As I ascend the Pass, the line of cars and trucks on the side of the interstate goes on for a mile or so. Truckers are putting chains on. By the time I get to the summit, I'm white-knuckling it through heavy precipitation and driving through about 6 inches of slush and snow. By the time I descend on the east side of the range, it's bone dry and clear - and I still have a long drive left.

It was beautiful driving along the Columbia River near the Washington/Oregon line a few days later.
