Exactly. My Dad was a Company Commander back then in the NJ National Guard.

When I was around 12 or 13 I would go with him in a convoy up to Camp Drum for 2 week training exercises. I should mention that the facility was renamed Ft. Drum and is now the home of the Mountain Brigade. The convoy would leave from the Armory in East Orange and stop in Kingston, NY and bivouac for a few days to guide the other NJ Guard units on their way to Camp Drum. The return home was the reverse of going up to Drum with a bivouac for a few days in Kingston. I don’t think the Guard goes to Drum anymore. May be using Ft. Dix.
