Football and basketball are very different

Since Canada doesn't seem very appealing for most players, there's not much of a non-NFL market for football players. Almost all Power 6 scholarship basketball players have decent options to make money when they're done with college. Football players who aren't NFL prospects can stick around earning graduate credit for as long as like playing football and their non-football opportunity costs aren't too high (this is actually how the game worked in the very early days before eligibility rules). Basketball players who aren't NBA prospects have a lot of other nice ways to make money playing their sport that might be appealing once they earn their BAs.
