At the beginning of the outbreak in the US


having little knowledge about how to treat patients, and the massive overload in NYC and New Jersey made it necessary to lockdown just so hospitals and their staff could survive. Information about the primary way covid was transmitted wasn't settled at that time, at least in the public view.

While children and young adults seem to usually survive, unfortunately there are exceptions that result in serious illness and even death. (The death of a young, active student at App. State recently is an example.)
