I agree. But, I also think the "lockdown" and "napalming" of the economy

are often overstated. Where I live and the states in which I travel (southeast), many businesses have carried on as usual. Places where people have gathered have been restricted, but mostly not shutdown. And those restrictions are sensible given how the virus spreads. But also, given that we are amidst a pandemic, those business segments would have felt a significant impact regardless of restrictions. Many people will not go to bars, movie theaters, or restaurants whether the politicians tell them they are allowed to or not. This is something that has been sited in the severe economic effect in Sweden. The other Nordic countries managed it better up front and have not experienced the prolonged, drawn out economic impact that Sweden has. I work for a Nordic company, and my colleagues describe life as being pretty close to normal and having been that way for a long time everywhere but Sweden.

Also, in the absence of restrictions, many businesses would be shutting down due to spread among employees. Manufacturers and food processors have experienced this. And having them shutdown out of necessity has a cascading economic impact.

The point is that neither the impact on heath, where lives and good health are saved by restrictions but also adversely impacted by restrictions, nor the well being of the economy is black and white.
