I don't know the rules, but I think CT deserved an E. So did the catcher.
The pitcher made a mental error, too. If he had backed up the catcher, PERHAPS he could have picked up the ball when the catcher lost it & gotten the runner at home.
Chris's bobble set the tone for the play for the Dodgers. Not a single one of the 4 Dodgers involved on the play made a good play. Chris bobbled the ball. The 1st baseman who caught Chris's throw made a fair to decent throw home, but it wasn't a good throw. The ball was a little bit behind the catcher (slightly up the 1st base line) & the catcher had to backhand it. The catcher botched it and the pitcher was standing on or near the 3rd base line instead of backing up the catcher.
The Dodgers botched the play from start to finish, as a team.
By the way, the pitcher said after the game that the hit was soft. True, but do you remember the Dodgers' bloop hit to left in the top of the 9th that drove in the lead run (CT)? The Dodgers have no business whatsoever complaining about cheap hits.
The Dodgers may go on to win the series, but all 4 of the players involved on that play have lots of experience & 3 of them really screwed up. It's probably not fair to say that the 1st baseman screwed up, but he didn't exactly shine on the play either.
