Chris was not going to throw the tie runner out at home. And I think that
Arozerena would have reached 3rd, as Chris's momentum when he reached Miller's single was taking him to the 1st base side of 2nd. He would have had to realign himself to throw to 3rd.
Plus, the pitcher simply dawdled around the mound, so he was not backing up home or 3rd. Thus, an errant throw to 3rd -- an overthrow -- would have ended the game as well.
The likeliest outcome is that the score would have been tied at 7 & Meadows would have come up with runners on 1st & 3rd & 2 outs.
