Yes, it was a decent throw, but it was not on Smith's frame. He had to reach
back for it slightly (to his right, a bit like a tennis player who is being wrong-footed) & Smith couldn't see the runner ahead of him. He panicked & tried to make catch & swipe move, which is easier said than done and which was not necessary in that situation, & he botched it.
As I mentioned in another post, Chris set the tone for the play. When he missed the ball,he recovered as quickly as possible, but you could sense LA's panic. (That said, Chris made a decent-good off-balance throw to Muncy.) It looked to me like Muncy was going to zip it home & that he changed his mind at the last moment (perhaps because he saw that the runner was nowhere near home) & took something off the throw.
Not only did Chris, Muncy & Smith execute poorly, Jansen didn't back up home. The Dodgers completely fell apart, despite the fact that (as far as I know) all 4 of those players have been in 2 of the last 3 World Series. Experience isn't always everything it's cranked up to be.
