Agreed. It was, as I said, a decent throw. And professional catchers have
to catch it. But I think that it's fair to say that it wasn't a good throw; it didn't put Smith in optimal position to make the play. That said, Smith should have made the play. He made an error, whether or not the scorekeeper called it.
That is why I why I have emphasized that the Dodgers panicked. If Smith had had a cooler head, he would have been aware that he didn't need to make a catch, swipe, and tag play to get Arozerena at home. He get caught up in the panic & tried to make a relatively tough play that he didn't even need to make.
