Why don’t schools just go the el cheapo route rather than cutting sports?


Why not just illuminate all scholarships, hire a dirt cheap coach, rely on existing facilities, and generally don’t spend anything unnecessary to have a bare-bones team?

I suppose travel cost is still an issue for the far-flung ACC. Yet, in many non-rev sports, you don’t play all the the other teams in your conference every year. I’m not sure about running.

It seems to me you could keep the sports alive by making them a half step above club teams.
