I don't mind the VT matchup. I don't "love" it, but don't hate it.
VT relies heavily on establishing the run with a multiple run scheme (inside zone, outside zone, jet actions, QB runs all mixed together). It is designed to create hesitation in the defense moreso than pummel them into submission by moving the LOS. UVA's LB's do a very good job with their run fits for the most part, so I think this would come down to more of a straight-up fight between the OL and DL. I don't think our defense will be out-schemed by VT's offense to break many home run plays in the run game. And I think we have enough talent in the front seven to hold the fort for the most part.
What I really like is how UVA's offense matches up with VT's defense. VT's defense is not particularly big, fast, or talented. UVA's OL should be able to move the LOS - when is the last time we could say that against VT? - and I like UVA's matchups on the perimeter (VT missing Farley and Waller is significant). I also don't think VT has an answer for Poljan, so long as he catches the dang ball when he breaks free up the seam.
I think this game will almost certainly be played in the 30s, and I think that UVA's offense has the ability to light up VT's defense again this year. That doesn't guarantee a UVA win by any means, but that game looks like a total coin flip to me.
