Manfred is just too much of a business guy.

I really wish Bart Giamatti had lived and been commissioner for 20-30 years. That would have altered the trajectory of baseball. I mean, the guy actually wrote a book that was basically a love letter to baseball. Fay Vincent was also a huge baseball lover. Even Selig, although he was an owner an businessman, had a deep love for the game. I just don't know about Manfred. I want to think the best of people, but he seems intent on reducing everything to dollars and sense, in a sport that is rooted in romance and lore of the game. You can't quantify the smell of pine tar and grass and hot dogs on a cool spring afternoon, or the sound of the bat, or the quirks of every park. Know anyone who goes on vacations to see as many NHL arenas or NFL stadia as possible? Me neither.
