This is my biggest frustration
I'm pretty well on board with shutdowns to control the spread, but K-6 schools are 50% daycare and closing those has drastic effects on everything else. I would prioritize keeping those schools open ahead of everything except hospitals and grocery stores. I'd even go so far as to reassign low risk high school teachers to elementary schools to make sure you could staff them safely. If NYC is going to take away primary school they should close down in-person service at all restaurants and bars, which contribute to the spread a lot more.
