single family home, rent it out through the resort to help cover costs. We've had it for about 14 years. A number of people we know have recently purchased investment properties there. Some don't rent, others use the resort, Airbnb, or VRBO. The resort used to (and probably still do...haven't checked in a while) charge 30% of rental income to manage single family homes and 50% for condos, which of course also come with condo fees. Even after all the fees we still get pretty good cash flow. You could reserve it for yourself when coming up for the games and rent it out the rest of the time. Very good tennis, spa (not during COVID), golf, hiking, and lots of wineries, breweries, and a few distilleries. 2/2 condos for less than $150K right now and 2/2 and 3/2 homes for less than $300K.

You can get to the resort (top of mountain) comfortably in an hour from Charlottesville. Stoney Creek (bottom of the mountain in Nellysford) seems to be more of a retirement/residential community....good golf (27 holes), they have tennis, closer to more restaurant options and 15-20 minutes closer to cville. Not sure about prices or the short-term rental market.
