I saw some SCM records were broken

Why were they swimming SCM?

I was under the impression no one swam that distance except for some oddball U.S. pools (Navy?), some European pools, and summer swim.

SCM really messes with the stroke count for collegiate swimmers, who have been grooved to SCY.
