surely what you were seeing is that the teams happened to both be running corner kick pieces that primarily involved longer runs into the box where the runs are bending to various places (near, far, pen, etc). the defense likely either playing zonally and picking up marks as they come or were marked but lagging off the attacker anticipating the run coming in.
many men's teams make much shorter runs that start much closer to the goal. literally like 2 yard shift runs where they are sort of using each other as picks and such. the ball is whipped in with such pace that it merely needs to be redirected. I feel like the USWNT did some of this when wambach was prominent, etc.
