Totally destroys the student-athlete model of finishing a degree in 3 yrs..

like Wadell. He is the model that should be advanced. There is no way to finish a degree in 2 years. Both my uncle and cousin never finished their degrees--both just a handful of credits short (but in their major so they couldn't take the classes elsewhere and transfer them back).

My uncle made it in the MLB for a 'long' but quiet pitching career, followed by minor league coaching opportunities (after he turned down the Toronto Blue Jays at retirement because he was tired and didn't want to go back to Canada, where he had played for the Expos). My uncle's degree would have been engineering, and it was stated that the credits did expire over time due to new technology and techniques.

My cousin, on the other hand, made it to Triple-A, before his pitching arm gave out on him. When he was in Double-A Knoxville Smokies, we invited him and 2 friends (a LHP and a catcher). Neither of the 2 friends played in college. After they left, you could tell that it was a baseball-dependent lifestyle with lots of bus trips, and the prize was making it the show (none of them did) or wash out. His degree would have been in architecture, and he was an amazing artist. I don't know if his credits expired, but I don't think he ever finished his degree.

Life after baseball is a big deal. It is a true disservice that MLB is doing to their talent pool. Decreasing the rounds from 40 to 15 also sounds like there will be a lot less minor league teams--as if rounds 16-40 were to fill out the minor league rosters, so the top prospects would be sent to a minor league team.
