Sadly, it almost sounds like an analytics decision,better off with 1-2 farm
systems, rather than 4-5. The MLB ball club, a AAA team (extended roster that fills in for injured players), and a AA-development team (including rookies), and that is it.
The analytics probably displays that less than 5% of the the draftees in rounds 16-40 ever make a MLB roster (and most of those slid in the draft due to injury and recovered).
The impact is that there becomes a much larger pool of ball players who have to give up baseball (or play overseas) a lot sooner than expected.
