That works. I love the (small) UVa connection with McKennie, and I think

he's headed for awesome successes, but I may be even higher on Adams, who admittedly wasn't great in his cameo yesterday. The two of them will form a midfield, that if they remain healthy (always the big IF), and perhaps add a commitment from Musah, will terrorize Mexico and other quality teams throughout the world. McKennie was so good for an otherwise terrible Schalke teams towards the end of last season, and predictably they are truly awful without him (-25 GD and 3 pts in 10 games). Talk about a precipitous fall from the top as they finished 2nd behind Bayern just 2.5 years ago.

Even if we agree that he's a very good player, based on what Juve thinks of him, I still disagree with your assessment that he doesn't fit in the rough and tumble, huff and puff, 100 mph at all times PL. I think he fits in perfectly in England and will move there eventually. If Mason Mount can be one of the first names on the sheet for Chelsea, McKennie will be just fine. I was actually more worried about him fitting in the slower-paced, tactically and technically proficient Serie A. Like most barely turned 22 year olds, I think he'll get far better at both of those if he plays in Italy for a few years, which will give him a well-rounded complete game. I've watched every game he's played this season, and the only one he was below team-average was against Roma. I'm sure he'll have some stinkers here and there, but the upward progression is real.

As far as critiquing his play for the USA, until the recent 2 games, in which Adams, Musah and McKennie were dominant, we hadn't had a game for over a year. It'll take a while to work out everything, for everyone to understand their place on the team, and it certainly does no one any favors to have so few quality players between 23-32. That lost generation (or is it 2?) is the main reason we were so vulnerable after Dempsey, Donovan, Beasley etc aged out. We still should've qualified for '18 on our own merits, or if Mexico wasn't so eager to lay over and screw us, despite Bornstein saving their asses 4 years previously.
