"IMG has really solidified it's baseball development"
IMG FYI (need to share on that point)
In addition to the noted Jake Gelof IMG teammate above this is what playing at IMG High School the last 2-3 years looks like:
As a Senior (of course abbreviated 5 RD draft) Gelof's teammates:
1) Mac Horvath UNC commit PG #66
2) Charez Butcher Tenn Commit PG #109
3) Gelof UVA PG #312
4) Kevin Karstetter (brother played Uva class 2017) Florida International Commit PG #321
5) Sam Hunt (Vanderbilt commit) PG 313
6) Aaron Combs Coastal Carolina Commit PG #334
7) Heston Tole Arkansas Commit PG #473
8) Corbin Morrison Tenn Commit PG #500
9) Brandon LLewellyn Pepperdine Commit PG#500
10) Trey Rucker ASU Commit PG# 500
11) Billy Underwood Coastal Carolina Commit PG #500
Then with the above noted 2021 commit
James Woods Miss St Commit currently projected as top to mid 1st round MLB selection by all publications MLB #5 & BA #5 overall HS prospect.
For comparison in 8 game shortened HS season (Per IMGs Gamechanger account)
Gelof led IMG (and Woods) in most of below:
OBP OPS SLG 2b 3b HR RBI BB KO
Gelof .552 1.385 .833 2 2 1 7 9 5
Woods .464 1.203 .739 2 2 1 5 5 8
Also 2021 BA (2nd team "National team" IMG teammate)
Tommy White # 40 in country Baseball America HS prospect NC State commit
OK so 13-15 high D1 commits on your HS team not impressive?
This was (part of) IMG's Senior class Gelof's junior year:
Brennan Malone 1st RD Pick Dbacks (#34) $2.2M
Reece Hinds 2nd RD Pick Reds (#49) $1.8M
Kendall Williams 2nd RD Pick BlueJays (#52) $1.55
Will Bartlett 9th RD Pick (#280) Cleveland $275k
Pat Romeri 12th RD Pick (#365) Cards $200k
Josh Rivera 22nd RD Pick (#653) Padres deferred to attend Florida.
** IMG Notes there are 5 current IMG alumni just in Dbacks orginization
SO what to take from this post . I haven't been on the site in awhile and Covid and weather has caused a boredom situation here locally. And to say IMG produces athletes (it's even crazier in other sports) is a WELL founded statement. So much so that for me at least, having followed some (what I thought were really stacked local HS teams) when I saw this IMG reality it just blew my mind so much I feel the need to share. It could be argued that there were few college programs that had as good a draft year as IMG in 2019.
Also gives a glimpse of "make up" of a kid projected to be in mix for Delaware POY type accolades and his decision to go to FL & IMG. It be hard to imagine a harder HS fight for playing time then these HS battles.
