Earlier post comparing 1990 Virginia offense and current Ala
QB- No question Mac Jones was excellent. His passing stats were better than Shawn Moore overall but Shawn actually had more adjusted yards per attempt than Jones and led the nation in 1990. Jones was second. Jones is strictly a pocket passer while Shawn could run and averaged more than 4x Jones per carry. PUSH
Running Back - Harris averaged 5.8 yd/rush while Kirby averaged 6.2 and Fisher 7! Kirby and Harris had almost 10 yards per catch. Kirby had excellent hands and was the number one rated HS player in the nation his senior year. Slight edge Virginia
OL- Virginia had 2 offensive line that went on to long NFL careers and 2 more with shorter stints. Ray Roberts was a top 10 overall pick and Mark Dixon was All American. Edge Virginia
TE- Bruce McGonnical led the ACC in catches and yardage. Had an NFL career with sure hands. Don't know that much about Ala TE but he is not ranked in the top 10 NFL prospects.
? slight edge Virginia
WR- Alabama has 2 sensational players while Virginia had one. Virginia's other WR had sure hands and was a good possession receiver. Herman Moore was a top 10 pick and NFL pro bowler 4 years. Large Edge Alabama
Someone posted Ala average 49 points over last five games. Virginia when healthy averaged 51.4. Ala had 3 players in the top 6 for Heisman while Virginia had 2.
The two offenses are very close with Alabama having better receivers but Virginia with slightly better backs and line.
