For Tahoe, I used to live there - and I highly prefer

North Tahoe vs. South Tahoe. So you'd be looking at areas around Tahoe City, Truckee, Kings Beach, Incline Village, etc. You'd be close to the lake and to multiple areas with restaurants, and of course all the mountains. If you're looking at how this ties into the ski resort areas, it means somewhere around Squaw, Alpine, North Star or Homewood.
