You’re getting good advice on where to stay, let me throw in a couple of th

thoughts about things to do while you’re in the area.
Don’t underestimate the geography between Tahoe and Yosemite and other attractions in the eastern California Corredor along Highway 395 which is just on the other side of the sierra Nevada range from Yosemite. Taking Tioga Road over Tioga pass from Yosemite down to mono lake is a great drive with incredible scenery, and mono lake is well worth the visit. As is Mammoth Lakes, the Bishop California area, the ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest atop the Inyo mountains and the lone Pine area with Mount Whitney and the Alabama Hills all to the south of mono lake but not much more than an hour, hour and a half drive.
There are four mountain pass routes between Yosemite and Tahoe- Two are in the general Tahoe area, the farthest south is Tioga Road mentioned above, but there is also Sonora pass which is stunningly beautiful and can access Hetch Heche, a mirror image of Yosemite Valley just to the south that was converted to a state water reservoir primarily for San Francisco area.
