Yes, but I don't think it's an either/or.

The better prepared a guy is coming into the league, the higher his chances of getting the chance to have to expand his game by getting focused coaching and game time. It seems to be harder for guys at the end of the bench or in G League to get that level of coaching, so their development falls more to themselves because the team is less invested in them individually.

That's what I was thinking with Mamadi. He could have been in G League last year, but he probably would have been less prepared, less likely to put up 27 and 14 and to get noticed, and thus he's better situated to make the jump now than he would have been a year ago.
