ECNL info.

Might be old news for the locals. SOCA has been trying to get into ECNL for a long time but has been blackballed by Richmond United who feel they deserve a 90 miles radius for players. They were able to do so as a senior board member of Richmond United is married to a senior board member of ECNL, which is out of RVA. ECNL allowed another NOVA team in recently and this set off the rest of the NOVA teams as they felt too diluted. So clearly SOCA is a good fit, but ECNL still offered Bethesda first, who turned down offer. Bethesda accepts and it is no go for SOCA.

Game level will be interesting. From my experience with ECNL the top SOCA teams (15/17 boys and 16/17 girls) will have a more competitive environment, while the middle/lower teams who puttered around middle of pack in CCL will have a new world to deal with next fall. Lower level teams will go winless, a lot.

Travel will be a bit of change. More fussing with NOVA traffic (shoot me now) but the big thing will be the required 2 of the 4 national events. The boys have one right now in Florida and the girls are in Phoenix. I think the next sets are Colorado and Seattle. Richmond is always in play, and lots of love for Florida as well. Fields will be great in the settings. The girls finals a few years ago used every inch of West Creek and River City Sportsplex.

Refs will be an issue in flux. When SOCA went to new CCL, the CCL tried hard to have all refs come out of central assignor, who often had no idea of the locals they were dealing with. CCL tried to have the local assignors cover the lower games and give them their senior refs. More than a few assigners said CCL do it all themselves or let the locals handle it. Essentially refused to share their senior refs. So CCL tried to get the refs they knew to drive from NOVA/RVA to Cville and Roanoke etc and that did not work. So CCL tried to make local refs do the games that the CCL assignor wanted. Dude got mighty fussy when I said I would do the 2-3 best early games and only one line. He tried to force the issue and I just never accepted his games. I may be old and slow, but they still need me more than I need them. And my woodshop get better by the day. Just added a jointer, a big ass dust collection system, and several new good jigs.

Have fun parents. Loved my time following around our 5 kids over 20 years. Do not miss is one damn bit.
