The only optics that matter are those effecting quality of next hire
First, its money.
Second, its money
Third its money.
Any other answer is wrong. But the only optics that do matter are if you develop the reputation of an AD with a quick trigger finger. Justified or not, that leads to top level candidates not willing to interview (just as say a school with a brand new AD with no track record in the top seat would or an older AD who is approaching retirement) and gives more fuel for coaches to argue for higher buyouts.
