From what I read, it was the tactics, selections, injuries. The MLS ...
has enough talent to make an Olympics. That was never the problem. Unfortunately, we picked a bunch of athletes and not enough players with technical abilities. There was no movement. There was no creativity. It wasn't just this game. It was throughout the tournament.
I believe we're also missing a couple players (Pomykal, etc.) due to injury and Atlanta wouldn't let their 2 best players leave because of the CONCACAF Cup. Unfortunately, they were supposed to be our most creative players.
It's not the end of the world the US didn't make the Olympics, but it still sucks. It's a missed opportunity to develop younger players through competitions and give MLS players a chance for transfers abroad by having a strong competition.
That said, I'm far more interested in our U20 and Senior team. Unfortunately, I heard our U20 coach sucks too. Thankfully, Berhalter appears to have a plan with the Senior team. For now, people say Ochoa (even with the bad game) and Soto are probably the only players on the U23 team who could have an impact on the Senior team. Some can still develop, but most have limited upside.
