Probably an ok idea to some extent.

I think it makes more sense to put it in one country, or a group of adjacent smaller countries though. You could rotate continents but still have to have each country interested on that continent bid to host. Maybe lump Australia in with Asia.

I think spreading across a continent makes sense when with respect to looking at a place like Brazil or USA (or USA/Canada/Mexico) hosting. They're so spread out anyway and travel isn't as easy as a European country where you can likely grab a train to any other host city and be there in a matter of hours. So in that sense yes. But you'd still have to have cities bid on hosting and it wouldn't necessarily eliminate that problem.

On the other hand it might also bring the WC to countries that would otherwise never host it. I'm sure many countries in Africa and South America (and probably Asia as well) don't have the facilities required to host a WC, and aren't interested in spending the money to build them. But if they had one city that had the appropriate facilities, or was willing to upgrade or build them, then why not?

Interesting suggestion. I don't have an answer. But I bet FIFA's answer is "we'll do whatever makes us the most money." Hence the expansion of the teams allowed in the tournament, even though I think keeping it at 32, at least currently, is best for the game. If in the future it seems like more deserving teams are being kept out around the world (and not just a couple of teams in Europe) then it might make sense to expand at that point. But I'm not in charge and FIFA is ultimately going to do whatever can make them even filthier rich. Which really isn't different from what you are seeing with the Champions League and EPL now. Everything is about the $$$$ with sports nowadays.
