Eventually, they pulled his replacement and kept Epstein in attack. For the most part, when he was playing midfield, he played up top. It was not as if they were playing him at midfield to set up an invert or create a mismatch. It appeared to be more or less a coaching ploy like sitting a starter for a quarter but then using him in the normal way later. Hop lost by three. Epstein had three assists. Had he played his normal position all game, would they have won or come closer? Maybe, although the difference in goalie play would have made it tough for Hopkins to win.
Looking for the Milliman quote about Epstein in today's print edition of the Sun? You won't find it because, as Lou would say, it's not there. What Ed Lee said in the online version didn't make it into this morning's print edition. But then again, who besides me still gets paper copies of the paper?
