Time--that's really it

A lot of folks (I count myself among them) have been a bit rewired after the last year. It's gonna take some people more time to feel right than others. I still cross the street when I see someone coming my way without a mask, even though I know passing by for a hot second won't do a thing. Some of this has become muscle memory.

Some people will be more cautious until we learn more about potential asymptomatic spread from people who are vaccinated, even though it already seems quite low risk. Some people will be more cautious until kids can get vaccinated. Some people will be more cautious until we know more about the COVID-19 variants and how specifically effective these vaccines are against that.

I would let your aunts have whatever space they need. They may not be afraid so much as uncertain, or still adapting to the new-new world. The majority of people need to get where they're going on this on their own.
