Honestly, I thought this would happen sooner after Lananna was announced.

That's two premier head chefs working in the same kitchen, who were fierce rivals for a few years in the PAC-12 at that. Since Lananna was hired after the 2019 XC season had started, and the men had a Top 15 team, it made sense for Dunn to stick it out for the (eventually Covid-shortened) year. When Dunn came back this year it told me there was some kind of delegation of duties that helped them work together.

There's a lot of burnout in the D1 coaching ranks, and Dunn was surely in that category for a while when he left U. Kentucky to move to Charlottesville without a coaching job here. Weekends are eaten up either at meets or recruiting. And, track/XC, being a 3 season sport, is a loooooong year with competitions August through June.

My guess is Lananna brings in a young protege/former runner at Oregon to be an assistant to do the heavy lifting for distance recruiting. But that's not inside info.
