That's an example of a microaggression. Whether intended or not, it is demeaning for the recipient. In isolation it is no big deal but it has a cumulative negative effect. Hence the "micro".
There is a wide variety of behavior that can fall under this category and those from disadvantaged demographic groups catch the brunt of it. One common example is talking over or through a woman or a minority person at a meeting. It happens all the time but many people either don't care or lack the self-awareness to realize they are doing it.
When done properly, the point of microaggression training is essentially to teach people how not to be a dick. When done improperly...
