Speaking of VDOT and death traps like 29/64, remember the Belvidere Toll
Plaza on 95 in Richmond.
That was a real death trap. It was located at the bottom of a fairly steep grade coming South on 95, and of course in the day when you actually had to stop to pay the toll.
I remember going through there several times and seeing a car completely crushed under a big truck
Traffic backs up there even now without a toll booth to stop it. My dad used to call it the phantom toll booth effect for a while after the toll plaza was removed. Of course the backups now are due to the many other poor design choices.but 95 through Richmond was never designed to be an interstate to begin with, and never should have been made one.
