Cultural offerings are suffering the same way some sports are

Baseball and basketball in particular. Both had certain organizations who "figured it out" regarding what works best on the field. For baseball, it's pitching velocity and launch angles, which leads to massive overrepresentation of strikeouts and homers. For basketball, it's how you get teams like the Rockets relying purely on 3-pointers and getting to the line. Great for individual teams being competitive, awful aesthetically, and more to the point, now every team is doing the same thing to some degree.

How it relates to pop culture is in the glut of sequels and movies based on existing IP. The studios realized that audiences are most likely to flock to what they're familiar with, and now it's all Marvel, all the time. It's a terrible homogenizing effect. We're applying investment maximizing strategies to sports and art, and it makes the final product a much safer, but far less compelling, bet.
