On the faceoff, until possession is gained, only 3 guys for each team

are allowed out of the restraining area. the 2 faceoff guys, and 2 wings for each team.

The wings have to stay behind the wing line until the whistle on the faceoff blows. The wing line is 20 yards from the faceoff x.

The UMD player picked up the ball about 3-4 yards in front of the restraining line, and was at basically full speed.

We could have had a guy in the restraining area get in his way but that would have meant leaving a UMD shooter wide open for a pass.

it's much easier for a goalie to save a ball that is being shot straight on that at an angle.
