Realistically, there's no way they would have banned the #1 player in the

world from major tournaments, which is the threat.

I applaud her -- she took a stand and happily paid the fine.

What I still don't understand is, if this is such a problem with the media, why doesn't ANYONE else on the tour have her back? Hell, I'm sure she would pay THEIR fines too if they stood alongside her in solidarity. Ultimately that makes me think she's just emotionally fragile. But she's the best player in women's tennis, so I think they need to figure out some way to reform their PR game so that she is comfortable. The big room with tons of reporters asking "gotcha" questions and personal questions doesn't work for her, and the "contract" they sign is a contract of adhesion, for which they can't negotiate the terms such as obligations to be available to the press, so I understand her perspective.
